Our Program
The Greek Academy has two tiers, and one goal. Beginners start with Foundations, a serious first year of Modern Greek in three 10-week courses. Intermediate and advanced learners continue into the Established Learners’ School (ELS), a professor-led community where they continue their progress through conversation, book studies, community interaction, and regular Q&A.
Many students follow the standard path from Foundations into the Established Learners’ School (ELS). However, intermediate and advanced students sometimes jump right into ELS following their placement call.

Foundations
Foundations is a 3-course sequence of university-style Modern Greek. It is structured, live instruction in small groups. Throughout the program, you will build the grammar and vocabulary to read, follow discussions, and hold basic conversations in Greek. Once you complete all three courses, you graduate into the Established Learners’ School.

How it works:
Live classes on Zoom, 2 hours per week.
Assignments and outside study.
Small groups to ensure quality and interaction
Each course runs 10 weeks, and is offered every year
Four start dates a year: winter, spring, summer, and fall
Foundations Community
From the date of your enrollment, you join the Foundations Community, even if your course hasn’t started yet. This online community is a space for Foundations students either before or between their courses. Here, you meet your classmates, ask questions, and stay connected between terms.
Established Learners’ School
Once you have established a foundation in Greek, you begin to learn primarily through use. Structured lessons become less important, and speaking, writing, reading, and listening to the language take a front seat. The Established Learners’ School is a professor-led community where intermediate and advanced learners continue towards fluency by the language.
